These are a few of my favorite things ...

So by now you all know how I love my sewing machine .... well there are quite a few other things that I really love to use that make my life just that little bit easier too that I thought you might like to check out ...

Kia Scissors

KAI

I just love these scissors! They are super sharp & and super smooth and don't tend to make my hand hurt when I use them for hours on end with my left hand! I use these little ones for applique - particularly raw edge. They are so sharp that it reduces the damage to the edges of my shapes as I cut them out once the fusible web is attached. Less wear & tear on the edges of your shapes ultimately means less fraying of your edges. Once I cut out my shapes I use the tip of my scissors to score the backing paper of the fusible - this releases the seal and makes removing the backing paper a breeze and also protects the edges of the fabric.

Lite Steam-A-Seam 2

Lite Steam-A-Seam 2

I discovered this product in the US last year and have used nothing else since. It doesn't separate from the backing paper until you want it to, it leaves the shapes relatively soft to touch & there is very little fraying of the edges of your shapes when you use it for raw edge applique. It also has a slightly tacky surface that sort of holds the shape in place until you iron it down - I must say though, that I don't find that it is incredibly tacky and the shapes will move around if you aren't careful.

Ansell Gloves

Ansell Gloves

These gloves are terrific to use for quilting. I first heard about these from an article by Deb Louie in Quilters Companion a while ago and have used nothing else since! They fit snugly, they grip your fabric well, they are super cheap & are readily available from Australian supermarkets. Give them a go you wont be sorry!

These are just a few of my favorite things I'd love to know what your are!

The odds for my last post giveaway were considerably better! So who won Mr Random Number Generator?

Dottycookiewho left the 8th comment ...

Bec Clarke who left the 81st comment ... and believe it or not Bec just posted about a swap quilt she designed using one of my projects as her inspiration! Make sure you take a peek!

Cascadewho left my 107th comment ...

Yay guys! Next post there will be 4 patterns up for grabs .. just leave a comment between now and midnight Australian EST, Sunday the 12th of July to be included.

The final giveaway, that will be the official 100th post giveaway, isn't far away so don't forget that your comments in these give aways will also gain you some extra entries (details in this post). This little pile of fabric will be coming on holidays with me later this week, together with something I have been drawing up for this giveaway ...

New quilt

... it will be worth the wait!

Thank you all so much for the Birthday wishes for Miss Megan from my last post, she was over whelmed by all of your comments! As for the tree ... well I am not so sure about that one exactly but something a bit like it may well be used for my Pay it Forwards and another little promice I have waiting ... but that's on the back burner for now as I have some things that can't wait a minute longer!

I have finally broken the back of my latest quilt ... thank God!!! Only a little quilting and binding to go. (type pad doesn't want to center my photos anymore so sorry about the formatting!)

Joshua2

This quilt is ultimately for Joshua who still lies under his cot quilt ... poor baby. Sadly he will be laying under it for quite a bit longer because it's going to be spending some time with Homespun once it's done. He's not too thrilled about it either I'm afraid ...

Joshua

I found him and it all snuggled in his bed yesterday ... luckily his shoes were clean!

Oh and just one more thing before I go and attack the mountain that I have to get through before we leave ...

Rainbow Lollipops ...

Rainbow Lollipops

Meg's Garden and ...

Meg's Garden

Oh Christmas Tree ...

Oh Christmas Tree

... are all making their way to the printers in the morning. They wont be listed in my store until the 25th of July, however, you can pre-order one of these patterns and my darling mother in law will pop it in the mail for you on the 17th of July ... hopefully earlier ... it all depends just how quickly she can fold them ;) !

They are $18 each not including GST (Australians only) or postage. To place a pre-order please email me here. Don't forget to label your email Preorder and please make sure you let me know which pattern you would like and where the pattern will be sent (so I can sort out postage) and I will send you a pay-pal invoice.

Edit Tuesday 7th of July - unfortunately I have hit a couple of snags with printing that have made getting the printing completed before we fly out impossible. Therefor pre-orders will not be ready for mailing out until the 27th of July. I am so sorry about this but unfortunately it just can't be helped.

If you have already purchased one or more of these three patterns using this method or if you choose to go ahead and preorder regardless of the delay then I will thow in a How does your garden grow? pattern and l will now throw in 10 extra entries in the 100th post giveaway in a few posts time.

Enjoy your week guys! Roll on Friday!!!!!! How did it get to be after 4 and I haven't gotten to bed yet????

Kellie

PS If you happen to find yourself in Barcaldine which is about 580 k's due west of Rockhampton, on the Capricorn Hwy in beautiful Queensland .... my patterns are now being stocked by The Silver Thimble! I didn't even get a change to list the pattern give away as blogless Betty took it out before I even had time to post about it!

Double figures!

On Saturday someone in our family clicked over to double figures .... how I can possibly have a child that's 10 years old?

100_0639

Happy Birthday my little big girl!

Luckily, Melbourne turned on a spectacular sunshiny day ... because we spent the day here ....

 Luna Park Entry

Some of us spent the day screaming and giggling on the thrill rides ...

100_0589

On these rides you have to be of a certain height ... and when you are 10 years old, being taller than 120cm is a breeze!!!

Thrill ride

The chickens hung out on the rides where you can't be any taller than 120cm ....

100_0578

Other more sensible people sat out the more terrifying rides on the side lines ...

As for me ... well I just carried around the bags and the credit card ;) and soaked up their fun!

Happy 10th Birthday Miss Megan ... you have no idea how much we all love you!

Our school holidays started on Friday ... not a day too soon either I might add! It has been a big term and the kids have achieved a lot ... They have all moved on from their white belts! Too cool!!!

KP

Jessica is relishing in her art classes ...

Jessies photot

Everyone has improved their Tennis! Now when Jessie hits the ball her racquet doesn't become a projectile weapon and when Ben hits the ball it generally doesn't bounce off Jessica's head!!!

Tennis

Megan is even moving on to playing competition next term!

As for me ... well, I'm still plugging away at my latest quilt ... but I did manage to squeeze in some time to quickly try out something I have been thinking about lately ...

Tree6

... I love trees ... I have a million of them so prepare yourself!

So, did you think that I had forgotten the pattern giveaway from the last post??? Of course not! The random number generator came up with the 20th comment that was left by blogless Judy in Michigan and the 42nd comment being Rachel from Not so plain Jane from Canada ...

Lollipops2

Congrats guys! So next post there will be 3 patterns up for grabs .. just leave a comment between now and midnight Australian EST, Sunday the 5th of July to be included.

One last thing before I go ...

 Dungarees_logo

.... Dungarees and Daisies are now stocking my patterns. So if you happen to hang out or find yourself hanging out around Hampshire in the UK why not drop in and take a peek and if you just so happen to be the first person to email me after buying one of my patterns there, I'll send you one of the How does your garden grow patterns.

Enjoy your week!

Just pretend that this isn't my 100th post ... ok?

Yep this is my 100th post but as explained in my last post it wont be the celebration post just yet .... however, there are a couple of things to celebrate since my last post! First up Mai from Handmade by Mai left my 3000th comment when she stopped by last week. I will be sending Mai a couple of patterns as my monkey making time is totally taken up at the moment with my current quilt.

June 12 006

Next up and thanks to the old random number generator blogless Chriss Jasper who left the 110th comment for the last post will be receiving the How Does your garden growpattern. Chriss is a regular visitor and commenter so I am thrilled to be sending her a little something.

Finally blogless Megan has collected on the giveaway pattern for being the first person to contact me after buying one of my patterns from Hettie's Patch

Thanks to everyone who left a comment to that last post! I feel quite guilty that there were so many comments for just one pattern so I have decided to increase the number of patterns that I will give away, by one, for each of the next few posts leading into the eventual 100th Surprise Party Celebration (that name is so lame ... sorry but i can't think of anything else to call it ... just know that I am cringing as I write it!). So for this post I will give away two of the How does your garden grow patterns but you must comment on this post by Sunday the 28th of June at midnight Australian EST.

Lollipops2

Thanks also for sharing with me your sewing machine loves and hints! I am going to give that left foot, foot pedal a go this week and I will let you know how it works out. I am very lucky to have my machine and there is no doubt that it has helped with my technique ... just as my 440 had done before it. However, nothing beats practice & persistence when it comes to trying to master any skills!

So what have I been doing this past week? Well .... I finished of the trapunto phase of my current quilt & have gotten back into the last of the hand sewing. Hopefully it will be ready for sandwiching by Wednesday and then I will be on the downhill run!

Quilt

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Jan, from Sewjourn, for lunch on Thursday. I am always very nervous when meeting up with fellow bloggers because I am not a very social body. Usually prefer the safety and the comforts of home and the solitude of my own company. However, after saying that, rarely have I met anyone in this blogging community that I have not thoroughly enjoyed the company of. Probably it's because we all share similar interests which is what has drawn us to each other in the first place.

Anyway ... as I was saying I met Jan on Thursday and handed over my bits and pieces for the Bushfire Quilt Hanging that turned out to be a great success on Saturday.

It was so nice to meet the people and who have worked so hard to get this project to this stage.

It was also great to see my ... Jodie's dress ...

and the beautiful textile art by Kaye Shanks.

I also enjoyed meeting so many of you who have gotten to know me and my little family by visiting this space. Thank you so much for saying hello and for the great encouragement ... it is always good to have one's ego stroked!

You also can't go very far these days without catching up with a blogger or two ... good to see you Lisa - I hope you managed to tame your savage beast! It was also good to see Bronwyn again ... twice in as many days, as we also met up in the waiting to be cut line at the Patchwork House sale. Bronwyn's photos & round-up of the quilt hanging is well worth a visit too by the way!

Quilt hanging 035

If you came along I hope you enjoyed it ... so many amazing women have given so much time and effort to help others. An amazing effort by some very generous women!

Jan and I did discuss the possibility of holding a weekend workshop at Sewjourn... what do you think? We haven't made any arrangements as yet but I would be interested to know if any of you would like to come along and spend a weekend with Jan & I and our sewing machines? If this is something that you might be interested in, please contact me here. If it turns out that there is enough interest we can look at making a plan for early in 2010.

Oh and I have to share with you a new addition to our family who arrived on our door step last week like a typical British tourist ...

Elle bunny 1

... this my friends ... is Elle and isn't she delightful!!! She's boarding with Miss Megan after leaving home a couple of weeks ago.

Meg & Elle

She has become a very loved member of our household so we were thrilled when she told us that she had decided to immigrate!! Now if only she could convince the rest of her family!!!!

I also found myself among some of Sarah's favorite things last week .... fancy being one of Sarah's favorite things ... of course I had to pop back and check on it at least a couple 100 times to make sure she hadn't made a mistake ;) but nup there I am .... thanks Sarah!

One more thing before I go ... I am after a collection of natural linens something like the one that I used for the bird cage. I kind of like that texture that this one has ...

May 29 006

... if you have seen anything that might be what I am after or know where I could look please let me know ... thanks!

That's it! Now I'm headed back to my sewing. Enjoy your week guys!

Kellie

PS If you can't manage to imagine your life without a gorgeous bunny like Elle make sure you go visit Lisa ... you wont be sorry ... isn't she cute!!!!!

Elle bunny 2

PSS Forgive me if there are more than the usual errors in this post ... I have been hit by a cruel virus and I feel like crap. After examining me this morning my Doctor gave me a prescription but refused to give me some time off work!!! I think I need a new Doctor!!!! Are you reading this Doc? ;)

A little Bernina 820 love ...

So does it feel like I have been avoiding you guys? Well in a way I guess I have .. this is my 99th post and we all know what is meant to come with my next post ... I have thought up a pretty nice giveaway but I am so heavily overcommited at the moment that actually making it in time has been impossible. Being as far behind with things as I am at the moment isn't fun it's nauseating I'm afraid ..... :(

So I figure my options are either to keep my head stuck firmly in the sand and hope you all wont notice that I haven't been around or just to stray from the line and have a surprise party celebration instead .. . so that is what I have decided to do ... sometime between now and my 106th post I will host the whole 100th post giveaway celebration ...  I hope the blog police wont mind!

Just a little note regarding the entries for the giveaway ...

  • everyone who leaves a comment on this post and the next posts that come before the giveaway will automatically get an extra entry for each comment that they leave ...

  • if the person who ultimately wins the giveaway has left a comment between now and the giveaway then they will get an extra little something including with their prize   ...

  • if the person who ultimately wins the giveaway has purchased one of my patterns before the end of the giveaway then they will get an extra little something (can be purchased from either my self or any of my stockists - must have proof of purchase) ...

  • At the end of the giveaway I will randomly select one person who has left a comment from each posts between now and the giveaway and they will receive a How does your garden grow pattern ...

June 12 006

Since my last post I have been frantically trying to complete my next magazine project. I decided to do alot of the applique for this one by hand and honestly it feels like I have been treading water without really getting anywhere for the longest time ...  until Monday when I finally finished the hand sewing on the centre panel and now it's where it belongs under my Bernina getting stuffed ... in a nice way I promise!. There is still some turned edge applique that has to be done in  the borders but hopefully now I'm over that initial hump things will move along a little faster.

June 12 028

Thank you to everyone who sent me birdie love from my last post. The cage is about 8" x 4 1/2" and it was all sewn using free motion stitching and a regular Mettler polly thread. As for a pattern I will be thinking about that for a bit ... but for now I have to get through to my ever growing and rapidly approaching list of deadlines ....

While I was visiting Lara earlier in the week I was inspired by her fabulous review of her sewing machine that was originally inspired by a meme from Sew Mama Sew. Now those of you who know me, know that I am rubbish at attending to memes and tags and the like ... you see it always takes me so long to write a post that by the time I have written what I wanted to write my allotted time is up and I never seem to find time to do the meme. On this occasion I am going to break the drought and actually join in with this meme as I think that this process will create a fabulous resource for us all in the future ...

Bernina 820

June 12 016

What brand and model do you have & how long have you had it?

I have an almost brand new sparkling Bernina 820 - this is one of their new models .... it's the one without the Embroidery attachment. She came home with me in March this year. She was one of the first in the country and it was one of the machines that was used as a demo at the Australian Quilting Convention here in Melbourne

How much does that machine cost (approximately)?

This is a high end machine coming in at around $7000 (AUD). I was given an exceptionally good trade-in for my old machine (Bernina 440) and a large discount because the machine had been used as a demo at the Australasian Quilt Convention. (I have a horrible feeling that the price I have listed is wrong ... it may be $7900 so don't quote me I will check on this tomorrow and correct it if need be)

What types of things do you sew (i.e. quilting, clothing, handbags, home dec projects, etc.)?

My machine is predominantly used for patchwork and quilting. I do make kids costumes and some odd crafty items but I don't make clothing.

How much do you sew? How much wear and tear does the machine get?

You had better sit down for this ... usually around 4 to 6 hours a day ... sometimes much more! My machines earn their keep! However ... I clean it every few days and oil it every second day or so when quilting. I also change my needles every 4 to 5 hours of sewing - this is not really related to the machine itself, however, a worn needle will effect the performance of your machine & the consistency of your stitch.

Do you like/love/hate your machine? Are you ambivalent? Passionate? Does she have a name?

I love this machine. I tried out the 830 at Houston last year and fell in love. Knowing that I would never be able to afford / justify the expense of the 830 I was thrilled to hear that Bernina was offering a very similar machine without all of the embroidery gizmo's that I would never use anyway.

She runs so smoothly and effortlessly. The extra space is a God send ... it is amazing how much of a difference this alone makes on the quality & consistency of your machine quilting. There are at least a gazillion stitches most of which I will never use but if you are into that stuff I'm sure you'd be thrilled. It has the ability to hold stitches in a programmed memory file ... I haven't used this yet but the theory sounds wonderful! It has everything that opens and shuts ... and more!

I am very happy with Bernina in general my last machine a 440, was also a great machine. I am not on their payroll either by the way ... although I could use the extra cash ;)

What features does your machine have that work well for you?

  • Needle down finishing option
-

with machine quilting and free motion stitching this feature is essential ... you know I use this feature all the time! It means when you want to stop stitching ... your project stops too ... no more little skips and movement when you need to readjust yourself and / or your project.

  • Needle up & down foot peddle control
-

this is such a convenient & handy feature as when I combine this with the knee lift I never need to take my hands off my project at all. I suspect that all Bernina's have this feature which allows me to lift and lower my needle by tapping on the front edge of the foot peddle. This feature is invaluable when it comes to raw edge applique ... particularly with my designs that tend to have lots of little bits.

  • Knee lift
-

if you have one of these and haven't used it or haven't persisted with it well pull it out and plug it back in! Go and do it right now!! This feature is so useful particularly with quilting or when free motion stitching with raw edge applique that once you get used to it you will wonder how you ever managed without it. Lifting your foot with your knee means you never have to take your hands off your project ... it's so much quicker and it helps with consistency in your stitching.

  • 12" extended arm
-

I never really realised just how much this would help my machine quilting! Having that extra space just reduces all that pushing and shoving ... that's a no brainer ... but it also helps to make your movements much smoother and more controlled and your quilting more consistent

  • Large bobbin that loads from the side
-

I know that lots of people like top loading bobbins  ... if you're a quilter top loading bobbins, in my opinion, are a pain in the bottom! To replace a bobbin I don't need to remove my quilt I simply lift up the front of the quilt a bit and pop the bobbin in and I can continue on stitching. The bobbins also have a large capacity - this is fantastic when you are using the same coloured thread through out a project, however, if you just need a little it seems a bit of a waist.

  • Separate bobbin winder
-

does anything at all need to be said about this really??? What a luxury!!!

  • Automatic needle threader -

this is heaven! This process has been upgraded in this machine compared to my old 440. In the 820 it really is totally automated ... press a button and the machine makes a few little buzzing noises and a little lever flips around and my needle is threaded first go, everytime!!!

June 12 025

  • Stitch Regulator
-

I have left this amazing feature until last for a couple of reasons ... it was certainly one of the big selling features of the 440 when I bought it. A stitch regulator is a spectacular feature for those new to quilting and it certainly helps with gaining self confidence with a technique that can be a bit daunting for newbies. However, once you get the hang of free motion stitching it can hold you back a bit. I never use this feature anymore as I find I work better without it.

Is there anything that drives you nuts about your machine?

I wouldn't say that this drives me nuts but it is a mild annoyance ... The machine is very big, don't get me wrong this is also one of it's features but because it is so much bigger than standard machines it only just fits into the drop down section of my Horn cabinet and when I say only just I mean it!!! I literally had to have the machine breathe in to squeeze it in there. This will make it a pain to take it out for servicing etc. Also with my teaching coming up I am avoiding thinking about how I am going to cart it around with me ... particularly interstate. Sure I could borrow a machine from the Quilt Shops but my machine is a bit of a security blanket ... a good old friend to tag along with me!

Do you have a great story to share about your machine (i.e., Found it under the Christmas tree? Dropped it on the kitchen floor? Sewed your fingernail to your zipper?, Got it from your Great Grandma?, etc.!)? We want to hear it!

This machine was a 40th birthday present from my husband ... it has sure softened the transition from 39 to 40! It also stands as a testament to my superior negotiation skills ... somehow I managed to put forward an argument that justified the expense of this machine and Mr DLN actually fell for it! Just kidding honey I really DID need this machine!!!!

Would you recommend the machine to others? Why?

I would absolutely recommend this machine and I think that all of the reasons have already been mentioned!

What factors do you think are important to consider when looking for a new machine?

There are so many factors to consider when you are sewing machine shopping. First of all you need to know how much you are prepared to spend then you need to confirm what you want to do with the machine now and in the future - for me this was free motion stitching & quilting but if you don't machine quilt or only do it once in a blue moon a machine that is right for me may well be a waist of money for you. Once you have confirmed this make a list of essential / must have features and those that would be lovely to have but you could manage without.

If possible find dealers that have several makes so that you can try out a few at the same time, this will help when comparing machines. It may also be helpful to ring ahead and book an appointment so that the sales person knows you are coming and will hopefully devote one on one time to you and not need to stop and serve other customers. Take notes and make sure you get to have a go at each of the machines you want to look at ... and make sure you actually try out the features that are on your essentials list to make sure they adequately meet your needs - if you want to try out free motion quilting take a small practice quilt sandwich with you to use.

When considering price make sure you use all of your assets to get the best machine for your budget ... don't forget that your old machine can be traded-in and make sure you get the best possible price for it - ring around the dealers and check as this can vary greatly! Try doing what I did and buy a machine that has been used as a demo at a show or on the shop floor - excellent savings can be made by doing this!

After sales service is also a very important factor - make sure you feel confident with the staff's skills and their knowledge of the machine. If you have something go wrong you want to feel confident that you can go to them and get friendly, knowledgeable & timely help. Also look at their servicing arrangement. The shop I bought my 440 from took 2 to 3 weeks to service my machine .... that is too long as far as I am concerned. The dealer I bought the 820 from has told me that I will have my machine back in 2 days ... this is a much more satisfactory arrangement especially for the same price!!!!!

Do you have a dream machine? .... oh baby yes I do ... and this is it!

June 12 009

If you have managed to make it all the way through my ode to the 820 I congratulate you ... well done! To finish up this post there are just a few more tid bits so hang in there ....

There has been another workshop added to the class schedule at Patchwork House in Hawthorn. This will be a repeat of the class being held in August however it will be held with a few weeks gap between the classes. If you want to come along you will need to be quick as the waiting list was long enough to all but fill another class.

Patchwork House are also now stocking my patterns. So if you're in Melbourne and not into the whole on-line bit then this is the only Melbourne based shop where you can currently find my patterns. I am also very relieved to add that I have finally finished the How does your garden grow? pattern so don't forget if you happen to be the first person to contact me with proof of purchase of one of my patterns from Patchwork House I will send you out one of these patterns ...

OK so I had better run ... enjoy your weekend!

EDIT: I forgot to make a time frame for the pattern giveaway for this post ... so let's make it Sunday the 21st at midnight Australian EST. Sorry guys. I will post tomorrow with the winner.

Kellie

PS. Hopefully now all of the problems that some of you were experiencing with my blog are now resolved. Apparently there was a problem with a piece of script in the Linkwithin feature that I had installed - this was the three little thumbnaillinks that were found under each post suggesting other posts that you might be interested in. I really loved this feature, however, because of the Operation Abort error it had to be removed. I contacted Linkwithin however they haven't replied as yet with a solution. If any other typepad users find that they encounter this problem, try removing this widget and see what happens ...

May 29, 2009

A little self indulgence ...

For a few weeks now I have been slogging away with my hand stitching. I have resisted the urge to turn on the Bernina. A little germ of an idea crept into my thoughts earlier in the week and it has been nagging me ever since ... this morning after dropping off the kiddos I decided that resistance was futile ...

May 29 006

I love you Bernina 820 ... I truly do!

May 29 007

I should have actually been doing Mr DLN's books .... oops don't tell him please!!!!!!

Enjoy your weekend!

Kellie

PS. If you have had trouble opening my blog this week could you please shoot me an email and let me know what your computer shouted when it happened ... so that I can let Typepad know. Thanks!

May 25, 2009

Some people travel to Sydney to see ...

the beautiful sites!

I've been there done that ... so when Mr DLN and I had our grown ups only weekend away this weekend I went here instead ...

May 25 002

and then I took a short walk to here ...

May 25 003

why would I do this... because I didn't have enough fabric ....silly!!!!

May 25 019

So at least for the time being ... I do now! I drew up a plan for this lot last night and I can't wait to start cutting ... but for now it's back to my hand sewing!

May 25 020

A few weeks ago I sent off a box filled with my patterns on a very long journey across to the other side of the world!!! Now they are living with this mad pair of English birds! I have absolutely loved my email conversations with Emma & Lisa ... they certainly are a lot of fun!

IMG_2668

So now you can buy my patterns from Buttonberry! Apparently a bundle have already been sold and Sue is going to be getting the How Does Your Garden Grow pattern for being the very first person to buy one from the girls. I am not sure if you have a blog or not Sue ... if you do please let me know and your extra pattern will soon be on its way.

Lollipops2

Enjoy your week guys!!! Think of me and my hand stitching ...

Kellie

PS. I forgot to mention in my last post that there will also be the same first time retailer giveaway for as we have done for the others.  If you are the first person to contact me with proof of purchase of one of my patterns from Hettie's Patch I will send you one of the How does your garden grow patterns.

Hettie's Patch has also just booked me in for a weekend in November as well as October so it looks like you South Australians are going to be getting a big dose of Don't Look Now in a few months time! YAY!!!! I also believe that Silly Gilly is planning on organising a blog meet to rival the whole Ballarat experience .... ;)

May 19, 2009

Last year in October I went to Houston ... this year I'm going to

Hettie's Patch in Adelaide!!!!!!

When we are open- Where you will find us.

On Saturday 17th  & Sunday 18th of October I will be teaching a class at Hettie's Patch that I am pretty excited about because it's a class that I have been thinking about for a while ... well for as long as I have been thinking about teaching ... which in the greater scheme of things isn't all that long.

March 31 086

The class will cover the usual signature aspects of my designs including raw edge applique with a bit of a twist. I will be developing a new project over the couple of months that will be the starting point of this class - we will lookat design, use of colour & fabrics to create something of each students own design by either using my shapes or by developing their own. Alternatively you could also simply follow my design and focus you energies on perfecting the skills that will be developed in the class. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!

March 31 131

Just in case you had your heart set on working on one of the cushions from Pretty 'n Pink in this class then don't worry you can still do that! The skills that we will work on will be the same ... you will just finish up with a different project in the end.

June17 011

A word of warning ... this class will be full on! Be prepared to work hard ... if we are going to go to the trouble of doing all of this we may as well make it worthwhile!!!

Dec 16 034

My understanding is that there has been enough interest in this class to book it out already ... however if there is enough interest there has been another date tentatively booked for November ... so give the girls a ring or drop them an email if you are interested.

Janurary 16.2 013

Hettie's Patch is also now stocking my patterns!

Feburary18 035

I had better get back to my current project .... I want to know whose crazy idea it was to sew these shapes down by hand??????

A dogs breakfast!

Looks a bit like a dogs breakfast at the moment ...

I'll be back on Friday .. see you then!

Kellie

PS There is a pretty terrific give away happening over here at the moment and look you could even win these:) !!!

A Mother's Day ...

I never really set out with the plan to become a mother. I didn't particularly like kids. I always thought that if I did end up having one ... that I would stop at that ... just one!

Gymbaroo

Miss Megan was a surprise. That pregnancy was a roller coaster of emotion. Meg was a scrawny little dot all 5lb 5oz of her. Mostly at first I was scared of her ... worried that somehow she would break. As each day went by I felt my heart being soaked up with total love and devotion for her. Who would have known how much love one person was possible of.

Clown megan

After 6 months when she finally started to sleep through the night I started to wonder how I could possibly manage with only one of these little people. It took some persistent convincing, a big dose of modern medicine and laying on my back for 15 weeks and those two little trouble makers joined our family. (I have Ben in the photo below and Mr DLN has Jessica)

Twins first bath

I can barely remember their first 3 months other than feeling like I would die from tiredness. I do remember though the moment that they first noticed each other. I was breast feeding them and they both caught sight of each other at the same time. They both stopped feeding and grinned away at each other for what felt like an eternity. They met each other like that every meal time from that moment onward so happy to see eachother.

Bunnies

After the twins we lost a natural pregnancy ... the space that was left tore my heart apart ... and then Joshua came along ... only one attempt at IVF produced this little man ... he was determined to join the family and what a cushy spot in this family he has! He is doted upon by us all.

May 16 Joshua

What a lovely Mother's Day I had last Sunday ... thank you guys! I am so grateful that I have you all and to be your Mother. Thank you Mr DLN for sharing all of this madness with me. I love you all so very much!

November14 084

OK so that's enough Mothers Day reflection for one post!

Not a lot to share this week as I have been busy hand sewing my circles but I can't show you this :(

I did finish the pillow top from last week but the pattern is still waiting to be written ...

Lollipops2

I have called this one... How does your garden grow?

Blogless Vicky from rural Victoria will be the first person to take home this pattern as she was the first person to contact me after buying a kit, no less, for Garden Party from Penny at Patchwork Angel

I have been drafting a pattern for a project that you wont get to see until next year. I will be using these very pretty fabrics ...

May16 fabric

... not my usual depth of colour, however, as they weren't chosen by me I am very pleased that I still find them appealing.

I also forgot to mention my Pay it Forward buddies that I 'collected' in this post they are ...

Cathy from Miss Marzie & Audrey & Maude

Pikku Kettu from Pikku Kettu Knits

and Jenny from Deekie Belle Designs

I have a little something planned ... hopefully it wont take me the whole 365 days to make it!

I have added a couple of new photos to the photo albumof some gorgeous finished projects ... take a look! If you have finished anything or have some progress photos then I would love to take a look and include them in the album too. Send them to me here.I have also recently changed email address & updated my laptop so I have misplaced links and emails ... I have been slowly trying to catch up and sort this out HOWEVER if you have emailed me with a photo, a link or a question and I haven't responded ... please resend it to me here. Thanks!

Before I go Lisa is having her first birthday give away all the way over here ... make sure you stop by and say hello! She makes some delightful creations that are well worth a peek!

Sharon is also celebrating her 1st blog birthday and she is giving away some crafty goodness. Sharon's site is a wealth of information on stacks of different topics and a great spot to find information if you have a crafty business or are planning to start one!

I also wanted to wish Sarah good luck with her new venture ... although I doubt that she will need it! I wont be playing along with her launch giveaway this time as I am saving up all of my giveaway energy for a few weeks time ... you see this is my 95th post and I am sure you all know what that means!

Have a spectacular weekend!!

Kellie

PS. Just one more mummy moment to share ... Joshua is the only boy in his dance class that is filled with sweet little girls. He loves going each week ... although I suspect it is predominantly because of the sticker that he collects at the end of the class. Last Saturday we arrived a little before the end of the class and snunk in to take a peek at what was going on. The teacher was discussing Jack & the Bean Stalk with them and they were all climbing an imaginary bean stalk. Once they reached the top the teacher asked them to use their imagination and tell the class what they could see. One sweet little girl saw a "beautiful unicorn".... another saw a "fairy castle".... "What do you see Joshua?" the teacher asked."McDonalds!" Joshua answered in his gruff, ruff & tumble voice. You see he was busy imagining a giant sized Happy Meal! You crack me up my very imaginative boy!

The laundry floor is still covered in clothes ...

... but the label has been sewn on Meg's quilt and it's now winging it's way across to Perth together with a pile of patterns. I believe there may well be some Meg's Garden packs on Julie's stand so make sure you take a peek if you are over that way!

I have finished all of those sock monkeys bar one ... a special one that I will tell you more about in my next post. They are in the back of an Australia Post truck together with their respective pillow or pattern making their way to their new homes. Julie's parcel is also in some sorting area preparing itself to be whisked away to the USA.

Blogless Elaine was the first person to contact me from Hot Possum after purchasing one of my patterns so another pair of socks will be requiring 'monkey-fying' (I know that's not a word!)... a job for later in the week!

The binding on the Ballarat Patchwork Sweet Little Garden class pillow is all but done ...

and remember that pile of lovely fabric ...

Pinks

... well I have been loving spending some quality time with it since my last post.

Photo0011

This little project has a very special purpose .... it is going to become the giveaway pattern that will replace the monkeys that I have previously given away when a retailer starts selling my patterns ... and it just so happens that a new retailer started selling my patterns this week!

Photo0012

Patchwork Angel on the Sunshine coast (in Queensland for those non Australians) has apparently already sold a fabric pack for Garden Party ... there's absolutely no stopping Penny! I will giveaway this new pattern to the first person who contacts me with proof of purchase of one of my patterns from Patchwork Angel. If you happen to be up that way make sure you stop in and say hello! Pam has a pretty extensive on-line shop and blog.

I must also say ... just in case you haven't noticed ... it isn't quite finished! It will be a bolster styled pillow :). This pattern will only be available through this giveaway and for all future new retailers.

There has also been a new development being spoken about over the last day or so ... here and here. It will be interesting to see what pans out ... poor Mr DLN is already trembling with fear of being left in the clutches of the kiddos for a whole weekend.

I'm off for now to finish my contributions for the Mothers day stall at school tomorrow.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Kellie

PS. I am looking forward to a relaxing day with you all on Sunday! I love you guys!

What are you doing tonight?

I should be sewing a label on this quilt ...

I should be sewing down spots ...

Dots

I should be sewing on monkey tails, eyes & smiles ...

I should be packaging up Toti with a Garden Party pattern ...

Stuff for Julie 2000th comment

I should be sewing the binding on this Sweet Little Garden clone that is going to visit with the girls at Ballarat Patchwork to display the project that will be made in my class there later in the year.

Binding to be sewn - 1
